The South Cumberland Plateau is an outdoor paradise with endless options for adventure. Here are a few favorites:
Grundy Forest Day Loop- This 2 mile trek will take you through the famous Fiery Gizzard gorge passed multiple waterfalls, rock formations, and ancient hemlock trees, some over 500 years old! Wondering how the name Fiery Gizzard came about? Legend has it that Davy Crockett once burned his tongue on a hot turkey gizzard, coining the name forever!
Grundy Lakes- Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this area was once a hub of coal mining operations. Fish, swim, or hike along the easy Lone Rock Trail where you'll discover the remains of the coke ovens, a relic of the once thriving mining industry.
Mountain Goat Trail- Access this 3 mile paved trail in the center of historic downtown at the Old Roundhouse Park. Follow along the route of the Mountain Goat Railroad which helped build the town.
